Double award winner, Jan Grape, has five mystery award nominations: the Edgar, Shamus, Anthony, Agatha, and the Mccavity. In 1998, she won an Anthony for Best Short Story, "A Front Row Seat" from Vengeance Is Hers, also nominated for a Shamus. She won a Mccavity for Deadly Women, a nonfiction book co-edited with Dean James, also nominated for an Edgar and an Agatha. 

Jan has over 25 short stories published and numerous non-fiction articles and interviews. Jan has been a regular columnist for MYSTERY SCENE magazine for over fourteen years, she wrote, edited and published "Reflections In A Private Eye," the newsletter for Private Eye Writers Of America. 

As an alumni of the Austin Citizen's Police Academy, Jan, occasionally rides patrol and assists in role-playing for the cadets. She's held office as treasurer and Regional Vice-President of the Southwest Chapter of Mystery Writers of America. She a past-Vice President of Private-Eye Writers and is a co-founder/life member of the Heart of Texas Chapter of Sisters-in-Crime, where she was also the treasurer for several years. Other memberships include: American Crime Writers, International Crime Writers, National Writers Union, Writers League of Texas and the Independent Mystery Booksellers. 

In 1999, Jan and husband, Elmer, sold Mysteries & More bookstore ( after 9 years) to travel with their black cats, Nick and Nora, and spend time with their five grandchildren.
